Meet our Apprentices

“I joined Finecast after hearing about them at a local careers day, and I’m now completing my NVQ in Mechanical Engineering alongside Level 2 and 3 in General Engineering. As a Quality Assurance Apprentice, I’ve already achieved qualifications in Level 1 Radiography and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI), and I’m now working towards Level 2 in both.

My current role involves operating the Seifert x|cube 320 kV X-ray and CT scanning system, as well as using GOM and Creaform scanners for metrology on a wide range of components — from transmission casings to impellers and BiW castings.

I enjoy learning and working alongside leading engineers, using the latest technologies to produce high-quality castings for high-performance and mission-critical applications across a range of industries.

Looking ahead, I’m aiming for a lead role within the Finecast Quality team. I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience not only in NDT and Metrology but also across Additive Manufacturing and the Foundry. The whole team has been incredibly supportive, and I enjoy the challenge every day.

Outside of work, I’m an avid Manchester United fan and a big music lover — I enjoy both listening and playing. I’m currently learning the piano and harmonica.”

Archie

Quality Assurance Apprentice

“I’m local to the area and studied at Littlehampton Academy before moving on to Chichester College, where I completed Level 1 to Level 3 in General Engineering. I’m now studying Mechanical Engineering with a focus on CNC Machining and CAD-CAM, having completed Level 2 and currently working through Level 3, alongside an NVQ in Advanced CNC Machining and Engineering.

At Finecast, I’m working as a CNC Turner, setting up and operating machines to produce compressor and turbo housings. I really enjoy the challenge and complexity of machining from castings — it’s highly hands-on, and no two jobs are the same.

I get to work as part of a great team of top engineers every day and always receive the right help and guidance when I need it.

In the future, I’d like to become a team lead in advanced 5-axis turning and machining, working on complex castings especially the motorsport projects as i’m a bit of a petrol head.

Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with friends and gaming on my PC and Xbox — I’ve even built my own PC. I also love driving, travelling, and exploring new walking trails.”

Joseph Biggs

CNC Machining Apprentice

I went to Littlehampton Academy and then Chichester College, where I completed Level 1 in General Engineering. I’m now starting Level 2 Mechanical Engineering, working towards an NVQ with a focus on CNC Machining.

At Finecast, I’m currently working on deburring and finishing cast components, and I’ve recently begun my introduction into CNC machining. I enjoy taking on new challenges every day and working as part of the machining team here. What I really enjoy is working with a great team and also the regular social activities the company provides when we finish work. I get to play football every week with the work team that I really enjoy.

I’m pursuing a career in machining and hope to achieve a highly technical position in the future — ideally as a lead machinist within the Finecast machining shop.

Outside of work, I play football at county level for Ferring FC and enjoy golf at Rustington Golf Club, where I currently play off a handicap of 18.

Louis Green

Quality Assurance Apprentice

“I went to Angmering School and then studied General Engineering at Chichester College, completing Level 1 and Level 2. I’m now progressing through my Apprenticeship in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, working towards Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, including an NVQ in Mechanical Engineering. I’ve also completed training courses in Mazak programming, FANUC programming, and FeatureCAM offline programming.

At Finecast, I’m currently setting and operating the Mazak Integrex, machining complex parts — some up to 600mm in diameter and to tolerances as tight as ±0.008mm. From day one Finecast has provided me with the opportunities to continue to learn and develop my career in machining engineering.

I love the challenge of machining highly complex components for some of the leading automotive and aerospace companies in the world, and I enjoy being part of the amazing machining team here at Finecast.

In the future, I’d like to undertake a Degree Apprenticeship in Manufacturing Engineering and progress to a Lead Engineer role within the Finecast machine shop.

Outside of work, I have a keen interest in history — especially Roman history — and I love travelling to historical sites around the world.”
