Finecast Team Takes on 100km Lake District Ultra Challenge to Support The Block Armed Forces Foundation Charity

May 18, 2026 | News

This June, the team at Finecast Foundry will take on one of the UK’s toughest endurance events — the Lake District Ultra Challenge — to raise funds for The Block Armed Forces Foundation Charity.

On 6–7 June 2026, our team will attempt the 100km continuous challenge, covering over 2,500 metres of elevation across the Southern Lake District.

The Challenge

Starting and finishing at Kendal basecamp, the route is a full 100km loop through some of England’s most demanding and scenic terrain, including:

  • Longsleddale Valley and the climb over Garburn Pass
  • The historic town of Ambleside
  • Trails alongside Lake Windermere
  • Forests, valleys and nature reserves
  • A final climb up Scout Scar before the finish

This challenge will test endurance, resilience and mental strength as the team attempts to complete the 100km route in under 24 hours, pushing through some of the UK’s most demanding terrain.

With over 2,500 metres of elevation and demanding terrain throughout, it’s a serious physical and mental test from start to finish.

Supporting The Block Foundation

We’re taking on this challenge to support The Block Foundation — an organisation supporting Armed Forces veterans, service leavers and their families.

The charity provides vital, practical support to those facing challenges such as homelessness, housing instability, mental health, addiction and the transition to civilian life.

Through supported accommodation, structured programmes and ongoing guidance, The Block Foundation helps individuals regain stability, rebuild confidence and move towards more positive, independent futures.

By completing the 100km Ultra Challenge, we aim to raise funds that directly contribute to this work — supporting those who have served and ensuring they have access to the help they need.

A Team Effort

At Finecast Foundry, we’re used to tackling complex engineering challenges — but this time, the challenge is 100km on foot.

From early starts at Kendal basecamp to the final climb over Scout Scar, this is a true test of endurance, resilience and determination. Long hours, tough terrain and over 2,500 metres of elevation mean there are no easy sections — just a steady push forward, one step at a time.

It’s a completely different environment, but the same mindset applies:

  • Working as a team
  • Staying focused under pressure
  • Seeing the challenge through to the finish

Like any major project, preparation is key — but ultimately, this is about stepping outside our comfort zones and taking on something that demands both physical and mental strength.

“It’s going to be tough — there’s no doubt about that. But as a team, we’re ready to take it on and push ourselves all the way to the finish.”

— David Gratton, Managing Director
